How I work with chemically dependent clients:

My approach to chemical dependency treatment embraces the concept of holism—integrating cognitive and behavioral techniques with an emphasis on limbic development.  Such limbic development includes mindfulness and meditative practices as well as the role of music, art, movement, yoga, ritual, metaphors, nourishing nutrition, relational and emotional support, stress/relaxation regulation, meaningful work, and creative expression in developing the right brain and in caring for the limbic system in healthy ways.   With clients, I value the co-creation of an individualized treatment plan that supports the concept of “thriving in recovery” by striving to reintegrate the multifaceted aspects of human experience into a meaningful and daring sober identity.

Education

I am a Registered Counselor with the State of Washington and a Chemical Dependency Professional Trainee.  My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and pre-medicine and I am currently in the process of completing a Master of Arts degree in Health & Wellness, specializing in Holistic Mental Health.

Experience

I hold certifications as a Mediator through the King County Dispute Resolution Center and as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner through the Nutritional Therapy Association, a program emphasizing bioindividuality and the exploration of underlying imbalances or stressors to the system.   I also have a background in cooking with organic whole foods for a Montessori school and have developed an interest in the relationship between foods and mental health & substance abuse issues.
